England, Week 2

Before I start in on Week Two, I guess I should clear one thing up. I am an eight-week intern, but I’m splitting the eight weeks between two entities. The first, of course, is the Baca County Economic Development Commission (BCEDC). The second four weeks of my internship, I’ll be working as an intern for the Town of Campo. I get to spend those eight weeks with the other Baca County intern, Sara, and the other Campo intern, Keshian.

Now back to Week Two!
I think my favorite day of the week, was the day I spent with my supervisor, Laneha Everett, going to three or four different meetings and working with her in the office. We attended a Chamber of Commerce meeting, a meeting with the founder of a Renewable energy company, and the BCEDC board meeting. As weird as it may sound, I enjoy most meetings, you can learn a lot if you just sit and listen! =)
We also came up with some great ideas for the BCEDC website and started planning business appreciation days for our local hospital district and a local Café/Gift Shop. For the hospital, I made a flyer (see above) and for the Cafe, I wrote a press release that should appear in the county newspaper as well as my town's paper on page 4. The rest of the week, I worked on the Business directory (which I'll be posting on the web, possibly) and the website.

So, it was a pretty busy week, but I had a lot of fun learning more about the community I live in!

Feel free to ask me any questions; I’ll do my best to answer them!

I love journalism, and I write frequently for the local paper. Every now and then, I get a call from a local person who has an idea for an article...this week I got a great one! A man with a horse-drawn 'stage coach' was parked in town for the night! I jumped at the opportunity, and you can see the story in our local paper, (page 1)

  1. Megan,
I agree...you are a journalism phenom...a great post with some energetic writing! I think it is interesting that you are doing a dual-internship for two entities...it will give you a unique experience, not too mention a bigger treasure trove of photos.

  2. Megan-

I also love going to community board meetings as well. Your article was very well written. Mr. Ratliff seems to be a colorful character and its nice he rolled through Campo. :) Also, great work adding in the flier you created!

  3. Thanks! Being a dual-intern can get a little confusing at times, but I love both parts, so it works out great in the end!
