England, Week

Hey ya’ll! I’m back, and as always, I’ve had a busy week! I spent the first part of the week planning our “Connecting Kids and Community” day camp for 4th-9th graders in Campo with Keshian and our supervisor, Mrs. Nikki. We got some great ideas from another intern, Sydney Bussem who did a similar project. Our plan is to spend the day doing tons of activities and talking about how young people don’t have to wait to be entrepreneurs, leaders, and community volunteers. We also continued planning a Youth Engagement Day and planned the Campo Community Tour. On Wednesday, Mrs. Nikki, Sara, and I went on a community tour of Springfield with a county commissioner and another employee of the city. In the afternoon, we toured Campo along with Keshian. We visited several businesses, a local garden, and a local artist’s studio. That evening, we helped again at the Watermelon Pageant practice and then met up with supervisors Darryl and Julie along with interns Xavyr and Clay. It was neat learning about what they’re doing in their own communities that evening and the next morning at breakfast. The next day, I was at a conference (check out the photo on the right-that's the scenery I got to see! Pretty cool, huh?) and then I finished up my check list for the BCEDC website. (A relief, though there’s still a couple of errors I’m working on)!
So, to sum up the rambling, I spent a lot of the week planning for the coming week. As the days flew by, I found myself getting more and more excited about the Connecting Kids and Community camp. I hope that our hard work and planning encourage the youth of our community to get more involved in our community.
So…check back next week to see if our work paid off! Check out the design below (created by Keshian). It's a sneak peek of part of the free t-shirts we will be giving out at the camp!

  1. Megan,
You are a shining star when it comes to using the intern blog to its full potential...way to go on posting the links! It is a superb way to see more than what you can write about in a short blog post. And I have to tell you, the T-shirt that Kesh designed is top-notch...make sure we get one for your intern profile! The Connecting Kids and Community Camp is clearly cutting edge...can't wait to read the results on that venture! Do you guys have a date yet for your Youth Engagement Day

  2. Megan,

Its great to see that networking between the different community has inspired you all in Campo to have a youth entrepreneurship day camp! I'm excited to see what yours will all have! And how cool that you have t-shirts for the participants!

  3. Thanks guys! The camp was a success I think!
By the way, my apologies to Sydney for the extra 'm' on her name. My brain gets ahead of my typing sometimes! =)

  4. Darryl, we haven't been able to get schedules from the other schools yet. We are still planning on one of the first Wednesdays in September. (Maybe Sept. 1st or 8th?) I will hopefully be working on that this week.
